Alhambra - Monumental Work
Juan Zíngaro did a fresco called “Alhambra” on the sand floor of the Arena of Arles, populated it with colorful stars, reflections of an Andalusian sky.
A long time ago in Ronda, cradle of modern tauromaquia, was concreted one of the most exciting artistic expressions that men have ever invented; the corrida (bullfight), that in the afternoon of April 11th 1998 will take the form of a poem of fire and blood, of life and death, written on the sand tattooed with black and red oxides arabesques, with red and yellow ochers.
With “Alhambra”, Juan Zíngaro will have known to carry all Andalucia in the Arena of Arles and during this time of the corrida, bulls and toreros (bullfighters) are going to displace, erase and redraw the fresco.
They will also be the artists, recreating a spontaneous and evolutionary art.
You could see wide traces in the Andalusian stars, and make some new mixes of colors, and some surprising forms will appear.
When everything will be finished, only remain in your memories, the traces of a confrontation between some mysterious and beautiful bulls, and some proud and brave toreros, besides the blood mixed with the light of the exploded stars.
It will stay in your memories the reminiscences of a beautiful painting like the deep pass of a calm and immobile torero.

This original work was done on the occasion of the Goyesque corrida of 11 April 1998.
